I ran into this book again today nearly a year after I first read it. I've read a handful of books on personal finances and money management, and I must say, this one is by far the most practical, straightforward one out there. This book has NO magical formulas, but if you follow its plan with "gazelle intensity", you WILL get out of debt, out of the rat-race, and have financial peace.
Moreover, I think Dave treats money the way it should be treated. He understands and teaches that money won't ever bring you true fulfillment or happiness. However, money is still important. The fact is that Jesus spoke more about money (in the Bible) than Heaven and/or Hell combined. Money has, and always will be, a central issue that every person must deal with. At the end of the day, we CAN use money for good purposes that matter (instead of wasting it on things that don't matter)...we can manage our money wisely so that we take ourselves out from under the leverage money typically applies to our every decisions. What if you could get rid of all the leverage money has on your decisions? Maybe you'd take another job that pays 5 times less, but gives you infinite joy and meaning. That's a life of freedom!
Dave Ramsey also has a ton of other helpful stuff on his website: www.daveramsey.com. Seriously, you should go take a look around. I've spent hours reading articles and whatnot on this website. Also, tune in daily to "The Dave Ramsey Show," available free as a podcast...might I mention it's in the top 5 of all podcasts in the business category.
It's common sense for your dollars and cents!
